South Dakota rancher testifies for FARM Act
A South Dakota rancher has testified in support of the FARM Act – which would exempt certain livestock operations from reporting emissions to the EPA. A D.C. circuit court reversed the exemptions in 2017.
Todd Mortenson, whose ranch is in Stanley County along the Cheyenne River, told a subcommittee of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee this morning that he is now required to report detailed cattle emissions information to both the Coast Guard and the EPA…
“Information that I simply do NOT have. Research in this area is limited, to say the least. Only two land grant universities have done research to establish an emissions calculator and as a pasture-based producer there is no available science to meet the statutory burden.”
Mortensen is a member of NCBA, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. The Fair Agricultural Reporting Method Act has bipartisan support.
