Ag group says US is missing out as TPP moves forward

A leader with the US Grains Council says the group is encourages by President Trump’s comments about potentially rejoining the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Kimberly Atkins is the vice president and COO of the council.

“95 percent of the world’s population is living outside the United States and a large percentage of that population is centered in that Pacific Rim area,” she says. “We see an incredible source of increased demand from the markets that are involved in TPP-11.”

She tells Brownfield the US is missing out on market opportunities as the other countries move forward with the agreement.

“If we step back other markets are going to step in to take our place and those are certainly markets we don’t want to lose,” she says.

Atkins spoke to Brownfield at the Commodity Classic in Anaheim.
