Brewers second baseman Jonathan Villar has two new special-order Wilson gloves, one in the retro royal blue and yellow and the other in black and white to be worn in the team's annual Negro Leagues tribute game.

On the field: Hernán Pérez drove in his fourth and fifth runs over the past two days, Jacob Nottingham homered and Brent Suter was efficient in his one inning of work as the Brewers outlasted the Cleveland Indians, 7-6, at Maryvale Baseball Park on Monday.

Suter, vying for a spot in the starting rotation, needed just 11 pitches to retire the Indians in the third in his only inning of work. He didn't allow a hit and struck out a batter.

"What we've always said about Brent is he's got some Hernán Pérez to him," manager Craig Counsell said. "The versatility he offers us as a pitcher is very valuable. It's a positive thing, almost a skill that he offers to the team. He's very adaptable in that sense."

Junior Guerra started the game and allowed three hits, a run and a walk to go along with a strikeout while Ernesto Frieri and Jon Perrin each struck out three in their innings of work.

Ryan Braun also made his first start of the spring, in left field, and singled on the second pitch he saw. He also drew a walk in his second plate appearance before departing.

BOX SCORE:Brewers 7, Indians 6

"Just roll out of bed and get back in there," joked Braun. "It's always fun just to have a little more adrenaline and excitement anytime the games start. It's just a little bit different level of intensity and focus than you get in practice."

Nottingham's homer in the seventh, a solo shot, was the difference for the Brewers as the Indians rallied in the ninth. Keon Broxton and Jesús Aguilar each added a pair of hits to power an 11-hit attack.

Weather: 64 degrees, sunny.

Cactus juice: It was a big morning behind the Brewers' clubhouse in Maryvale on Monday, as Wilson dropped by to deliver gloves to the players who have endorsement deals with the company.

Second baseman Jonathan Villar walked away with a couple special-order numbers — one in the retro royal blue and yellow and the other in black and white to be worn in the team's annual Negro Leagues tribute game.

Among the team's other Wilson players are Braun, Lorenzo Cain, Yovani Gallardo, Oliver Drake, Corey Knebel, Taylor Williams, Aguilar, Eric Sogard, Broxton, Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana.

Counsell was also a loyal Wilson guy when he played, and he usually has one of his old gamers somewhere close by during pre-game.

"You should use the glove that makes you perform the best because that thing makes you a lot of money. That's what I always said," Counsell said. "I would pay them to get those gloves because I wouldn't have been comfortable with another glove on my hand.

"I mean, you don't check your glove on the plane. You carry it with you, you know what I mean?"
