Conservation Stewardship Program offers incentives to apply conservation practices

The sign-up deadline for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is Friday, March 2.  The CSP gives financial assistance to producers who expand on the conservation practices they’ve already implemented, said Curt McDaniel, at the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Missouri.

“We see that through our other programs, like EQIP, we see it through the state cost share program with DNR and various other partner programs of willingness to do voluntary acts of conservation,” McDaniel told Brownfield Ag News.  “CSP is here to make sure that we maintain that and then give incentives to go above and beyond.”

Among other things, said McDaniel, CSP practices include improving grazing conditions, developing wildlife habitat and planting cover crops.  Sign-up can be done at USDA Farm Service Centers.
