Guess who stopped by to visit Arizona's ailing Sen. John McCain?

That would be Larry Fitzgerald, the Arizona Cardinals receiver and famous sports pal of the politician also known as an Arizona's most famous fan.

"Look who came for a visit today," writes Cindy McCain, the senator's wife, in an Instagram post dated late Friday — it was Fitz, the McCains' "favorite" Cardinal and "a wonderful human being!"

Fitzgerald and McCain are well-documented members of a mutual fan club, and the athlete published an open letter to McCain on Christmas praising his service.

McCain in July was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. In December, he was hospitalized in Bethesda, Maryland, for a viral infection and for side effects related to his ongoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He returned to Arizona on Dec. 17 where he has remained, getting physical therapy at his family's cabin in Cornville, near Sedona.

McCain's office had originally said he was planning to return to work at the Senate by January, but his daughter Meghan later said concerns about the flu season were keeping him in Arizona.

Updates on McCain's condition have come from the family's social media posts, where Cindy and Meghan McCain have shared pictures.
