Indiana town supports RFS, farmers

A resolution in support of the Renewable Fuel Standard has passed in eastern Indiana this week.

The Portland Indiana City Council passed the resolution that outlines the benefits of the RFS and encourages lawmakers to support farmers by promising to strengthen it.

POET Biorefining has an ethanol plant in Portland, Indiana, and is applauding the support of the RFS.

The company says the RFS helps Indiana farmers and biofuel producers compete against fossil fuel companies that try to monopolize consumer options at the pump.

POET biorefining has 27 plants in seven states. The Portland, Indiana location opened in September 2007. The facility consumes about 25 million bushels of local corn to produce 68 million gallons of biofuels each year
