That baby hippo born at Disney's Animal Kingdom? It's a boy!

Augustus the hippo was born Jan. 13, 2018, at Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista. He's shown Feb. 21 with his mom, Tuma, weighing 168 pounds.

The "little" Nile hippopotamus born Jan. 13 was named Augustus. Typically, a newborn calf weighs between 50 and 110 pounds and the sex and weight aren't immediately known. According to a news release sent Tuesday by Disney, Augustus now weighs about 168 pounds. He was the first hippo born at the Orlando theme park in 13 years.

Augustus is often seen staying close to his mom Tuma. His dad is her mate, Henry. Guests can see the calf and his mom while experiencing the Kilimanjaro Safaris and Wild Africa Trek.

Tuma and Henry were chosen to breed through the Species Survival Plan, which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Hippos, which mostly eat plants, are semi-aquatic mammals native to sub-Saharan Africa.
