A north side gas station has been shut down after state inspectors found water in the fuel tanks.

The station, at N. 23rd St. and W. Fond du Lac Ave., was shut down Tuesday after tests were conducted on the tanks, according to a news release from Milwaukee Ald. Russell W. Stamper II.

State officials sent an inspector to the station Tuesday after receiving a consumer complaint.

After conducting tests, the inspector concluded there was water in the fuel tanks and advised the owner that the station would have to suspend gasoline sales.

The inspector determined that faulty seals on the fuel tanks during the recent heavy rain resulted in water entering the tanks.

The station owner will not be able to sell fuel until the tanks are repaired and re-inspected by the state, the news release said.

Any customers who believe they may have purchased the diluted gas can call the state consumer protection department at (608) 224-4942.
