Camp report: Hanging out with WWE superstar Braun Strowman at Monday Night Raw

On the field: The Brewers held their first full-squad workout of the spring and all players were present and accounted for except first baseman Ji-Man Choi, who was excused to have a wisdom tooth extracted. The session included the first live batting practice session of the spring, with pitchers facing hitters. Many of the pitchers who threw will take the mound Friday for the first exhibition games. Off the field, Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker was inducted into the Cactus League Hall of Fame, joining a group that included Hall of Fame players Frank Robinson and Gaylord Perry.

Weather: 53 degrees, sunny.

Cactus juice: First baseman Eric Thames, listed at 6-feet, 210 pounds, is known for his body-builder physique. But Thames met someone Monday night who made him look rather small – WWE superstar Braun Strowman, billed as 6-foot-8 and approximately 385 pounds.

“Those guys are all big but he’s huge,” Thames said. “They are all massive dudes but he’s larger than life, literally. It was fun meeting him. Talking to him, he’s just like a regular guy.”

Thames and outfielder Brett Phillips had been to wrestling events before, but it was a first for left-hander Brent Suter, who admittedly was a bit wide-eyed attending Monday Night Raw in downtown Phoenix.

“It was impressive showmanship,” Suter said. “They’re really slamming each other around. Meeting (Strowman) was fun. He’s a super-nice guy and one of the biggest humans I’ve ever met. In the ring, he’s an absolute beast. Thames would be good at that. People would love him.”

Scoreboard: The Brewers begin exhibition play Friday with split-squad games against the Chicago Cubs at Maryvale Baseball Park and the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale. Both games are at 2:05 p.m. Central.
