Ag groups in court over California Prop 65 listing of glyphosate

A national coalition of ag groups is seeking a preliminary injunction against California’s Proposition 65 in court today.

The proposition lists glyphosate as a potential cancer-causing chemical, even though the EPA and other agencies have determined that the weed killer is not carcinogenic to humans.

The ag groups say California ignored data that glyphosate is not harmful to humans when it added the weed killer to Prop 65.

Gordon Stoner, president of the National Association of Wheat Growers, says agriculture is under attack and the erroneous listing should be halted.

The National Association of Wheat Growers is the lead plaintiff in the hearing at a California U.S. District Court today.

Other groups include National Corn Growers Association, the Agricultural Retailers Association, the Agribusiness Association of Iowa, Associated Industries of Missouri, and more.

The group filed a temporary injunction in December asking the court to halt the listing.
