Slow pace continues for corn, soybean export inspections

 

The USDA reports corn and soybean export inspections remain behind the pace needed to meet USDA projections for the 2017/18 marketing year. The current marketing year runs through May for wheat and through August for beans, corn, and sorghum.

Wheat came out at 422,298 tons, down 77,527 from the week ending February 8th and 148,512 lower than the week ending February 16th, 2017. For the 2017/18 marketing year, wheat inspections are 17,546,297 tons, compared to 18,388,515 in 2016/17.

Corn was reported at 938,099 tons, 91,991 more than the previous week, but 243,874 less than this time last year. Cumulative corn inspections are 16,644,605 tons, compared to 24,449,896 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 960,066 tons, 378,809 below the prior week and 132,631 under a year ago. At this point in the marketing year, soybean inspections are 37,011,315 tons, compared to 42,722,063 last year.

Sorghum inspections totaled 195,150 tons. That’s an increase of 162,078 tons on the week and 14,973 on the year. 2017/18 sorghum inspections are 2,514,236 tons, compared to 3,044,994 in 2016/17.
