Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride said two suspicious packages found Sunday morning along U.S. Highway 29 South near the First Quality Enterprises plant posed no threat to the public.

The highway was briefly shut down Sunday morning while deputies and a member of the sheriff's office bomb squad investigated, McBride said.

A series of suspicious packages have been spotted throughout the county since a man was injured Jan. 30 when a small bomb in wicker basket exploded at Travis Road and Martin Road.

Most of the packages have been trash lying near roads, McBride said Sunday. He said residents appear to have heightened awareness of objects along roadways.

McBride said the FBI is assisting the sheriff's office in its investigation into the recent reports of suspicious packages.

The sheriff also urged residents to avoid approaching any packages that look suspicious. Intead, he said, they should call authorities.
