Prep wrestling: Gabriel Ramirez heads Immokalee's list of four champs at district tournament

The Immokalee wrestling team had four individuals take home individual championships on their way to a second-place finish at the Class 1A-District 12 tournament at Oasis High School on Saturday.

Gabriel Ramirez moved his sterling season mark to 48-1 with a 12-1 majority decision victory over Lemon Bay’s Tyler Brady at 126 pounds. Roche Pierre also scored a majority decision victory at 113 pounds, winning 10-2 over Lemon Bay’s Jacob Labell, Nevertesonne Lahens pinned Lely’s Hector Henriquez with 30 seconds remaining in the first round to take the title at 132 pounds and Miguel Vidaurri scored a 3-1 decision at 160 pounds over Dunbar’s Ellottra Figueroa.

The Indians will send five more competitors to the 1A-3 regional meet, to take place at Lemon Bay High School Feb. 23-24. The Manta Rays totaled 199 points to take home the team title, with Immokalee finishing with 146 points to finish as runner-up.

Lely finished in third overall, with two district champions and two runner-ups making up the majority of their 120.5-point total.

Marlon Moreta earned a pin with three seconds remaining to defeat Alex Sacramento of Oasis at 170 pounds and Jacob Stephenson also claimed his championship at 182 pounds by way of a pin, finishing off Imagine School’s Anthony Marcoguiseppe with six seconds remaining in the first round.

Herlan Henriquez dropped a close 8-7 decision to Evangelical Christian’s Kaleb Davis at 152 pounds for the Trojans, who will send six more competitors to the regional meet with a chance to earn a spot in the state championship.
