Laura Ingraham invites LeBron James to her show after telling him to 'shut up and dribble'

In a continued war of words, Fox News host Laura Ingraham invited LeBron James to appear on her show, The Ingraham Angle, in response to James' Twitter jab Friday night.

“Hey King, Come play on my Court next week,” she tweeted late Friday. “You’re invited on the show anytime.”

The drama started Thursday, when the Fox host told James and Kevin Durant to “shut up and dribble” and “keep the political commentary” to themselves after they had criticized President Donald Trump in an UNINTERRUPTED video published the same day.

On Friday night, James wrote #wewillnotshutupanddribble” in a retweet of the USA TODAY Sports story about Ingraham’s viral comments.

Ingraham’s show segment went viral Thursday, in part because she questioned James’ credibility to speak about politics because he does not have a college degree.

"Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids,” she said. “This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid a hundred-million dollars a year to bounce a ball."

In response to those comments, Durant told USA TODAY Sports that he felt sorry for Ingraham. "To me, it was racist," Durant said.

Ingraham responded Friday in a statement from Fox News sent to USA TODAY Sports and other outlets.

"If pro athletes and entertainers want to freelance as political pundits, then they should not be surprised when they’re called out for insulting politicians," Ingraham said in the statement. "There was no racial intent in my remarks – false, defamatory charges of racism are a transparent attempt to immunize entertainment and sports elites from scrutiny and criticism."

James and Durant were critical of Trump in the UNINTERRUPTED video. Discussing Trump, James said: "The No. 1 job in America, the appointed person (Trump), is someone who doesn't understand the people — and really don't give a (expletive) about the people."

Durant echoed those sentiments, saying, "the country is not run by a great coach."
