Mitch Ciohon has changed the name of his taco and burger trucks to Taco Moto and Burger Moto.

Chef-owner Mitchell Ciohon has announced a new name for his businesses: Gypsy Taco is now Taco Moto, and Gypsy Burger is Burger Moto.

The name change came about after criticism by people of Roma heritage, who say gypsy is offensive to members of the ethnic group.

Ciohon said in January that he would change the names of his businesses in response to the concerns that were raised and apologized.

He wrote in a statement issued at the time, "It has come to my attention that the name around which I have created a brand is offensive to the people from which it stems.

"While not my intent, the name I chose to represent me as a chef was founded upon an inaccurate definition that disregarded the long history and plight of the Romani people. The local community has spoken and I have made it my mission to listen."

Ciohon launched his taco truck in 2016, taking up permanent residence at Boone & Crockett bar in Bay View. In 2017, he opened his burger truck, which is parked downtown at Rogues Gallery.

Ciohon announced the new names on Instagram on Friday; the businesses will be on social media at @tacomotomke and @burgermotomke.
