Minnesota remains a top canning crop producer

Minnesota ranked first in processed sweet corn and green pea production in 2017.

USDA data also shows the state near the top nationally in snap bean and pumpkin production.

There were more than 112,000 acres of sweet corn harvested in Minnesota a year ago, with production totals of 18.6 million per hundredweight (cwt).

Green pea production totaled nearly 2 million (cwt) on 46,000 harvested acres.

The value of processed sweet corn was $57 million dollars in 2017, and topped $24 million for processed green peas.

Snap bean production in Minnesota was valued at nearly $3 million, and pumpkins had a total value of $1.3 million.
