Name given for shooting victim found in Oxnard park

The man killed by gunfire in an Oxnard park over the weekend has been identified.

An Oxnard man was found shot to death overnight at a city park at 801 Hobson Way, the Oxnard Police Department reported Sunday. It was the city's first homicide in 2018.

Kirsten Cain was the 26-year-old found by police late Saturday night, the Ventura County Medical Examiner's office said Monday. The slaying was Oxnard's first homicide this year.

Cain was found around midnight lying on a sidewalk on the northern edge of Community Center Park West, the Oxnard Police Department said Sunday. The park, at 801 Hobson Way, is bordered on the north by Seventh Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cain had family in Oxnard but was also considered a transient by authorities. He had "quite a few police contacts" in the past, Sgt. Alex Arnett said.

The case is being investigated by the department's major crimes unit. So far, police are looking for suspect information and a motive for the killing.
