Hotel Loyalty 2014-Q1 hotel promotions Marriott Hotels Marriott Rewards (replaced by Marriott Bonvoy)

Marriott MegaBonus Feb 1-April 30, 2014

Marriott MegaBonus promotion has started to show up in members’ accounts today. The promotion runs February 1 to April 30, 2014. Registration required by March 31, 2014.

The bad news for me is my offer dropped to one free night at Category 1-4 hotels after two stays. Limit of two free night certificates.

This is a downgrade since I had an offer of two category 1-5 certificates on the last two MegaBonus offers. And I have stayed more nights with Marriott in 2013 than ever before.

Here are the offers posted so far on FlyerTalk.

  1. Earn 35,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights plus an additional 2,000 after each additional paid night, up to 55,000 points.
  2. Earn 35,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights, plus an additional 15,000 after 25 paid nights, up to 50,000 points.
  3. Earn a free night at a category 1-5 hotel after the second paid stay, up to two free nights.
  4. Earn a free night at a category 1-4 hotel after the second paid stay, up to two free nights. (Many members including me report this offer after having category 1-5 certificate offers the last two MegaBonus promotions.)
  5. Earn 25,000 bonus points after 15 paid nights plus an additional 15,000 after 20 paid nights, up to 40,000 points.

Marriott MegaBonus

Excuse me, but I am not feeling the love with a category 1-4 offer.

I was hoping to have another set of category 5 free nights for an extended hotel stay at a category 5 property summer 2014.

Update December 19 – read comments to see what happened after I tweeted my disappointment with the category 1-4 offer and then spoke to Marriott Rewards customer service.

Though, I have not received the email for the promo yet, I have a feeling I will also get the same downgraded promo you have.

Its odd that rather than being rewarded more for loyalty, Marriott scales down the offer to those they believe will stay with them anyways. Sorry Marriott but even those with corp agreements still have choices.

This is why I believe one should have several loyalty hotel programs going. When u r taken for granted for your your business at one program,, you switch to another, then repeat.

I will NOT register for the promo if it is downgraded, and recommend others getting the downgraded promo, not register for it to send a message.

I have the category 1-4 offer. I previously had category 1-5 offers but my Fall Megabonus was 40,000 points for 20 stays, which I never would make so I asked for the two free nights instead. Am waiting to see those post. I wonder if I was dropped to a category 1-4 offer based on that or maybe the hotels I usually stay in. Unfortunately One of my favored hotels is now a category 5.

Yep, got the lousy Cat4 offer too. I am Gold and have 2 Cat5 certs from last promotion, definite downgrade. I may call in and beg for switch to points bonus, not holding my breath on that.

I received the Cat 4 offer as well. Not sure of my stay pattern 1st Quarter, but if i do take advantage, will probably use the free nights at the Rayong property in Thailand. Not the best area, but a new property with what seems to be nice pools.

I got the 40k offer, unless their are more cat 5’s changing to cat 4’s I’m going to pass on Marriott almost entirely this quarter. As long as the relationship with UA continues I can maintain status easily enough.

Yeah that category 5 is huge. Good number of category 5 hotels in big cities but when you drop to 4, then you are talking about the suburbs…

I have two category 4 certificates expiring in a few months. I am planning to use those in three weeks for an Autograph Collection hotel.

Tweeted I was disappointed with my Marriott MegaBonus Category 1-4 offer when there is 1-5 offer out there. Tweet reply from Marriott International suggested I call Marriott Rewards customer service.

I called and said I would like the category 1-5 offer. Agent made note in my record and stated after May 15 the certificates would be upgraded to category 5 awards if I complete the qualifying MegaBonus stays.

Bizarre, but nice if it works out.

I always get the points offer (which I prefer) but not always the max points. Got the 50k offer but will request for the 55k since I can meet those paid nights easily.

  • Karl Mitchell December 19, 2013

Cat 1-4 for me too, after having successfully gained two cat 1-5 stays in the last round.

  • Daniel December 20, 2013

I received the Category 1-4 offer, I’m a Platinum as I did a challenge last year. Last promo I was offered some version of the points, but called and asked to be switched to the Category 1-5 offer which they agreed to do. I called today and asked them to switch me from the Category 1-4 to the 1-5 and again they agreed to do so.

You don’t get anything if you don’t ask for it.

  • Susan E December 21, 2013

Ric, I also posted on Twitter after you did and followed up with their Rewards customer service team. I got the same deal you did. She said follow up around May 1-2 and it should be upgraded to a Cat 1-5. Hope it happens! She said the next time, call first and they can get it signed up correctly versus signing up first and then calling…

  • Ric Garrido December 22, 2013

@Susan E. – I will remember in the future to call first before registering for my MegaBonus offer.
