While, United just posted the following on MilePoint:

United MileagePlus and Marriott Rewards are pleased to share that we will be extending the RewardsPlus program into 2014.

For those of you already registered in the program, if you’ve qualified for 2014 MileagePlus Premier Gold status or higher, no action is needed on your part as we will automatically renew your registration for 2014 benefits. If you’ve qualified for 2014 MileagePlus Premier Gold status or higher and haven’t registered for RewardsPlus, you can register at united.com/rewardsplus to enjoy complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status. Please note that while we are in the process of renewing registrations for 2014, the registration website will be down for a period of time starting December 28th. We will provide an update when the site is live again in 2014 and ready to accept registrations.

RewardsPlus offers complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status for MileagePlus members who qualify for United Global Services, Premier 1K®, Premier Platinum or Premier Gold while Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite members can register for complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status. In addition, all MileagePlus or Marriott Rewards members can receive a 20% discount on points-to-miles conversions and 10% more miles for Marriott Rewards Travel Packages.

Bottom Line

I don’t think it’s a real shocker that this is being extended, especially with Starwood/Delta’s relationship with Crossover Rewards.
