Ethanol carrying tremendous momentum into 2018

The CEO of Growth Energy says the ethanol industry is carrying tremendous momentum into 2018.

Speaking to Brownfield at the recent Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit, Emily Skor  recalled several successes from the past year.

“We produced a record nearly 16-billion gallons of ethanol.  We exported 1.3-billion gallons, shattering all of our previous records.  And on the policy front, we ended the year having come out on top of some pretty important and big fights.”

She says the Trump Administration has been supportive to ethanol.

But as the industry continues to grow, Skor expects opposition voices to get louder as competitors lose market-share.

“And so you’ve just got competitive forces playing out right now, and people are trying to use policy mechanisms to do that.  But I’m really bullish about our future and we just have to be very smart.  We’re going to have a lot of incoming fire, and we have to be able to discern between what is a distraction and what is something we really have to address head-on.”

Skor says expanding infrastructure is allowing consumers more access to higher blends of ethanol.

And she points to global demand as another positive the industry hopes to build upon this year.
