Confusion over IHG’s ‘The Big Win’ promo for 2014

As a number of people have pointed out in the comments to my last post about registration being open, there is some confusion about one element of the offer – staying at a set number of Holiday Inn’s.

This is the text from the main page:

It clearly says that Holiday Inn’s are required, but the text from the Terms and Conditions link say Holiday Inn Express stays are needed:

  1. I emailed them the same question and got this response “Please be advised that Holiday Inn and Holiday Express are considered as two different brands but still under Holiday Inn Hotels so you can stay at either to be eligible. We hope this clarifies your inquiry.”

    I’d love to hear your answer as well – just to be sure. I’d hate to stay in one or the other only to find out it isn’t applicable (and to be told the rep didn’t understand or wasn’t authorized to comment).

  2. I called yesterday. I was on hold a long time and the rep came back and said the promo was brand new and they really didnlt know much about it yet. She said I would hear from a manager in 48 to 72 hours.

    I hope Shane’s rep was right. Holiday Inn Express works out a LOT better for me.

  3. Shane, I don’t know if that’s right. In addition to “change your view”, I also have a “stay smart”. Under “change your view”, it explicitly states that I need 2 HI Express stays. Under “stay smart”, it explicitly states that I need 2 Holiday Inn stays. (Funny that the HI stays aren’t consistent under “change your view”).

    I’m also curious if I can satisfy the requirements by staying at the same hotel. Will staying at the same HI Express twice satisfy the 2 stay requirement?

  4. My requirement for the new promotion is 3 HIs and 3 HIXs. When I click on the T&Cs for the HI nights requirement I get:

    “Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member and must register member number in advance to participate in this promotion. Number of bonus points or bonus miles listed above will be awarded after required number of qualifying room nights have been consumed by the member between January 1, 2014 and April 30, 2014 (both dates inclusive) at Holiday Inn Express® hotels hotels worldwide.”

    And when checking the HIX T&Cs, I get:

    “Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member and must register member number in advance to participate in this promotion. Number of bonus points or bonus miles listed above will be awarded after required number of qualifying room nights have been consumed by the member between January 1, 2014 and April 30, 2014 (both dates inclusive) at Holiday Inn® hotels hotels worldwide.”

    Aside from the presence of the word “hotels” twice, I suspect there was an oversight when cutting and pasting together the T&Cs from the matrix used and the hotel groups were reversed. Being the weekend I would not expect any of the service centres to even understand what’s being referred to and it will be up to HQ project managers to figure this out on Monday and make the corrections.

  5. Agreed Brian, I think the rep I emailed might be incorrect. So I emailed again. If I had to guess I think the “Stay Smart” is solely for HI and the “Change Your View” is solely for HI Express. I’ll repost once I get a response.
