Packers promote former safety Brandian Ross to scouting role
MOBILE, Ala. - Even though Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst plans to wait until after the NFL draft to consider outside candidates for his personnel department, that didn’t stop him from promoting a promising young scout.
Gutekunst decided earlier this month to retain scouting intern Brandian Ross by offering him a full-time position, according to a league source. Ross is expected to earn experience in both the pro personnel and collegiate scouting departments. He is here with the Packers for the Senior Bowl this week.
Ross, 28, joined the Packers as a scouting intern in summer 2017 after former executives Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith called him to gauge his interest in making football a career, the source said. They brought him in for an interview and awarded him the internship before he left Green Bay.

The internship continued through training camp, at which point former general manager Ted Thompson decided to extend Ross for the remainder of the 2017 season. During that time Ross worked with the Packers’ other pro scouts at Lambeau Field and also went on the road to evaluate college prospects.
Ross’ internship was set to conclude earlier this month around the time of the Packers’ search for a new general manager. Once Gutekunst was hired he decided to offer Ross a full-time position, the source said.
A former safety, Ross signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2011 after a collegiate career at Youngstown State. He spent time on the Packers’ practice squad in 2011-12 before moving on to the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins.
Ross appeared in 45 games and made 24 starts from 2012-15 before the Denver Broncos cut him prior to the 2016 season.
