Wheel & Sprocket will be the first retail tenant at Ballpark Commons, a mixed-use development planned for Franklin.

Wheel & Sprocket plans to move its Hales Corners bicycle shop to the new Ballpark Commons mixed-use development in Franklin.

Wheel & Sprocket will lease 20,150 square feet on the first floor and lower level of a three-story office and retail building in the development's northern section.

It is the first retail tenant announced for Ballpark Commons, which developer Mike Zimmerman plans to begin constructing this year after obtaining final state and local approvals.

Ballpark Commons is being developed at The Rock, Zimmerman's outdoor sports complex, 7900 Crystal Ridge Road.

Wheel & Sprocket fits well with Ballpark Commons, which is to be anchored by a baseball stadium for an independent professional team, and include other sports-related businesses as well as apartments, Zimmerman said in the Tuesday announcement.

“While moving out of the Hales Corners community that has been home for 44 years is bittersweet, we are thrilled to be part of the Ballpark Commons,” Noel Kegel, Wheel & Sprocket president, said in a statement.

“Being part of an active lifestyle development with complementary users is huge, not to mention the benefits of having off-road and paved trails out the back door," Kegel said.

Wheel & Sprocket also plans to open its first Milwaukee store, including a possible restaurant, at 187 E. Becher St. by the end of this year. That's in the Bay View neighborhood.
