Rangers analyst Ron Duguay suggests officials should have been 'doing women's hockey'

MSG Networks analyst and former New York Rangers center Ron Duguay had to clarify a postgame comment Sunday night, after the Rangers' 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Duguay was not happy with the officiating and appeared to take a shot at women's hockey.

"I think these guys would have been better off doing women's hockey, the way they did the officiating -- because they were kind of soft," Duguay said.

His comment was followed by awkward silence on the set, then nervous laughter.

Duguay attempted to clarify his remarks later, saying, "I felt like they didn't officiate a very rough game tonight. In women's hockey, there's no hitting. That's why I said that.

"Nothing against women's hockey. I love women's hockey -- I don't want the women angry with what I said. It's just the officiating ... I don't think they did a good job in this physical game."

Duguay played 12 seasons in the NHL -- eight with the Rangers -- and retired in 1989.
