Explore aims to help students "try out" potential careers

Medical and fire fighting two areas of opportunity

Ruidoso News Report
  • Meeting is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 25, at First Christian Church

Young men and women of high school age often plan what they want to do in adulthood and when they finally attain independence they discover what they thought would be a career is not for them.

Students may be interested in a career as a firefighter like these Ruidoso firemen checking out a roof for possible spot fires.

High school students from Ruidoso, Capitan and Hondo, who are interested in medical or fire department skills have a chance to test those waters with an Exploring program coming to Lincoln County from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 25, at First Christian Church, 1211 Hull Road in Ruidoso.

They will learn how to try out a medical or fire skills career to see if it fits before making that after-school decision.

On the agenda, will be a brief explanation about the Exploring program, examples of the advantages of receiving firsthand experiences in fields of interest, a chance for question and answer, and registration for those who think the program is right for them.

Come explores interests, discover new talents and begin to chart a path toward the future. For more information, contact June Shaughnessy, at 760-963-8990 or celts2@yahoo.com.
