Skeletal remains found in Shippensburg had been there about a year, coroner says

SHIPPENSBURG - The skeletal remains which were found Sunday afternoon in Shippensburg are believed to have been there for a year, according to the Cumberland County coroner Charles Hall.

According to state police, the remains were discovered by a hiker in a wooded area in the 200 block of South Conestoga Drive in Shippensburg Township, Cumberland County.

State police responded to the scene at about noon, and secured the area. 

Hall said the victim has not been identified as the team is awaiting dental records, but he did say it is believed to be a man. 

He added that no foul play is suspected at this time. 

State police, the Cumberland County Coroner and forensic experts from Mercyhurst University in Erie are currently investigating the incident.
