Pickup truck hits Mont Alto Post Office

The U. S. Post Office at Mont Alto is closed after a pickup truck struck the building overnight Saturday.

 

MONT ALTO -- The Mont Alto Post Office is closed today after a pickup truck ran into it early Sunday.

At around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, a pickup truck crashed through the front doors of the Post Office at 3 Ash Street, according to Karen Mazurkiewicz, central Pennsylvania spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service. She did not have further details about the crash.

There were no employees on site and the post office was secured. The building is a leased facility and the owner was contacted.

Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, have yet to release details about the crash.

Customers can retrieve their Post Office Box mail from the Quincy Post Office, 6617 Orphanage Road, Waynesboro. A customer must present identification at the window. The Quincy Post Office is open on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m.

“The post office is conducting an emergency suspension until a further determination is made about the building,” Mazurkiewicz said. “Mont Alto customers that receive street delivery will not be impacted by the change unless they have mail that requires pick up” such as hold mail, accountable mail or items that need a signature.
