New Titans coach Mike Vrabel, who agreed to terms on a five-year contract Saturday and will be introduced at a press conference Monday, is expected to target Ohio State co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day as his offensive coordinator, league sources told The Tennessean.

Day played quarterback at New Hampshire from 1998-2001 under then-offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and served as the quarterbacks coach on Kelly's staff with the Eagles and 49ers in 2015 and ’16, before joining the Buckeyes last season.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota won the 2014 Heisman Trophy while playing for coach Mark Helfrich, who was still running Kelly’s system at Oregon.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson fired coach Mike Mularkey on Monday in large part because of dissatisfaction with Mariota's development.

Mariota regressed in several major statistical categories in his third pro season, notably throwing a career-low 13 touchdowns and career-high 15 interceptions during the regular season.

But Mularkey said at his season-ending press conference that he was happy with Mariota's development and anticipated making no changes to his coaching staff.

Offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie and quarterbacks coach Jason Michael, like all of Mularkey's assistants, remained under contract through next season. Wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson was the first assistant to land elsewhere, accepting the same position with Baylor.
