Hot Air Affair, Lake Superior Ice Festival and more to do around Wisconsin this week

Eau Claire: Powder Keg Snowshoe & Fat Bike Race. Join a 5K/10K snowshoe run/walk or a 12- or 24-mile fat-bike race through Lowes Creek County Park on Jan. 27. Registration is $35 in advance or $40 on race day. See chippewaoffroad.org.

Elkhart Lake: Schnee Days. This celebration of schnee (German for snow) Jan. 25-28 includes a talent show, wine tasting, a 5K, a chili cook-off and kite flying. See schneedays.com.

The Moon Glow is a highlight of Hudson's Hot Air Affair.

Hudson: Hot Air Affair. Hot air balloons will take to the air along the St. Croix River and glow in fields at night during this event Jan. 26-28. Other activities include live music, a craft fair, a run/walk, a smoosh board competition and ice carving. See hudsonhotairaffair.com.

Phillips: Phillips Flurry 5K & 10K Snowshoe Race/Run/Walk. Strap on snowshoes for this race through the Phillips School Forest on Jan. 27. Races kick off at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $30 and includes a post-race meal and long-sleeve T-shirt. See phillipsflurry.com.

Superior: Lake Superior Ice Festival. This winter celebration Jan. 26-28 on Barker's Island includes the Great Lakes Classic Pond Hockey Tournament, fireworks, ice sculptures, bonfires, a craft fair and family activities. See lakesuperioricefestival.com.

Wausau: Winterfest. Celebrate winter around downtown Wausau Jan. 27 with free activities including horse-drawn carriage rides, a snow slide, ice sculptures and curling. See wausauevents.org.
