Man on Phoenix sidewalk dies after being hit by car that hopped curb

A 49-year-old man died after a vehicle drove onto a sidewalk and struck one pedestrian and nearly missed another Thursday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

A 49-year-old man died after a vehicle drove onto a sidewalk and struck one pedestrian and nearly missed another Thursday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department. 

The driver, 18-year-old Keten Burke Crawford, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into jail on the suspicion of manslaughter and aggravated assault, police said in a statement Friday morning.

The 49-year-old man, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said witnesses held Crawford at the scene until officers arrived.

The incident occurred near 16th Avenue and Osborn Road at about 11 p.m.
