Dead & Company book two shows at reopened Alpine Valley Music Theatre June 22 and 23

Alpine Valley Music Theatre lost a Dave Matthews Band show to Summerfest this year — a shocker considering DMB has played the East Troy amphitheater more than any other act over the past 15 years.

But the 41-year-old Alpine — back in business after its first no-show season ever in 2017 — has landed another ace act for jam band fans: Dead & Company.

Dead & Company, pictured here performing at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in 2016, returns to the East Troy amphitheater June 22 and 23.

The three-year-old supergroup — featuring John Mayer and Grateful Dead alum Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann — stops at Alpine June 22 and 23, as part of its 24-date summer tour.

Dead & Company played Alpine as part of its first summer tour in 2016, then opted for Wrigley Field in Chicago last year. The shows were part of the Friendly Confines' busiest concert schedule to date with 10 shows, including with Alpine regulars Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band.

Last week, Alpine also announced two shows with Zac Brown on Aug. 11 and 12. Tickets for that show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Competition from Wrigley seemed to be the knockout blow for the long-struggling Alpine, which was unable to lure any acts to perform there for its 40th anniversary season.

But back in the 1980s and the '90s, Alpine was one of the country's premier venues, and it was a favorite stop for the Dead and Deadheads. The band played there 20 times from 1980 to 1989, including an infamous show on June 19,1988, where about 60,000 fans descended on East Troy, more than twice the capacity of the venue.

Tickets for Dead & Company, priced between $45 and $149.50, are available beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 by calling (800) 745-3000 or (866) 448-7849, or visiting ticketmaster.com or livenation.com.
