Rauner says regulatory, tax cuts will help Illinois agriculture
The governor of Illinois says the state’s number one farm issue is to allow producers to do their work. Brownfield’s Tom Steever talked the chief executive and a state lawmaker Wednesday in Peoria. Governor Bruce Rauner tells Brownfield his legislative agenda for farmers is shaped by the fact that there is too much tax and too much regulation.
“The key to our success and future prosperity is growth for our farmers and our agri-business, and I’m all for that,” said Governor Rauner, in an interview with Brownfield Ag News Wednesday. “That’s the number one issue: reduce the regulatory burden, cut the red tape, eliminate the restrictions and reduce the tax burden.”
State Representative Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley) tells Brownfield it’s likely major farm legislation will be sparse because of the election later this year. However, Pritchard says the biggest impact on agriculture is the state budget.
“We’ve got to keep the stability that we’ve accomplished this year by having a budget,” Pritchard told Brownfield Wednesday.
Pritchard and Rauner spoke to Brownfield Wednesday following remarks to the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association Convention in Peoria.
