Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey will spend time in the kitchen with chef Larry Berkowitz later this month.

Public servants are upping the ante on service at Chef Larry’s Café in Titusville, where some of the county’s top public administrators are rolling up their sleeves to cook.

Chef Larry Berkowitz concocted the clever idea of inviting Brevard movers and shakers into the kitchen offer a different glimpse of the people who run the county.

“People can get to interact with these folks from a different perspective and have fun,” he said.

From 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26 and 27, Wayne Ivey will transform himself from sheriff to chef to regale Chef Larry’s ’s clientele with his rendition of crispy chicken with mango chutney.

Guests can enjoy the good sheriff’s considerable culinary talents for a mere $15, and that includes soup and salad, plus starch and veggies. They may also end up on television, for a little bird told Berkowitz that the event may be televised for Sheriff Ivey’s new cooking show. This could be a dinner-and-show kind of affair, folks.

After feasting on Sheriff Ivey’s cooking, make plans to revisit Chef Larry’s Feb. 2 and 3, when Brevard County tax collector Lisa Cullen will be chef. While we may correspond with her regarding tax-related matters, most of us are not aware that she is a whiz in the kitchen.

Brevard County tax collector Lisa Cullen will visit chef Larry Berkowitz in February.

The secret is out now. She is cooking chicken and dumplings, as well as filet of beef Oscar with a crab cake on top, and the dishes will be easy on the wallet, unlike some property taxes that shall remain nameless. Cullen’s creation will also go for $15, including soup, salad, starch and veggies. Reservations are recommended for both guest chef events.

Titusville Police Chief John Lau will provide law and order to his recipe for chicken parmesan on Feb. 9 and 10. Plans are for more local celebrity chefs to join Ivey, Lau and Cullen, so at least once a month guests will be able to experience public service from a gastronomic viewpoint.
