Slow pace continues for corn, soybean export inspections

 

The USDA reports corn and soybean export inspections as of the week ending January 11th, 2018 remain behind the department’s anticipated pace for the 2017/18 marketing year, reflecting the increased export competition faced by both commodities.

Wheat came out at 368,651 tons, up 133,435 from the week ending January 4th, but down 16,848 from the week ending January 12th, 2017. For the 2017/18 marketing year to date, wheat inspections are 15,135,637 tons, compared to 16,186,643 in 2016/17.

Corn was reported at 584,389 tons, 265,889 lower than the previous week and 326,456 less than this time last year. A little more than a third of the way through the marketing year, corn inspections are 12,014,379 tons, compared to 18,840,069 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 1,231,037 tons, 18,316 above the week before, but 191,504 below last year. At this point in the marketing year, soybean inspections are 30,837,904 tons, compared to 35,894,732 a year ago.

Sorghum inspections totaled 119,096 tons. That’s an increase of 117,473 tons on the week, but a decrease of 55,280 on the year. 2017/18 sorghum inspections are 1,763,469 tons, compared to 2,154,611 in 2016/17.
