How To Make Decorated Cactus Cookies - the Anti-Valentine

Valentine's Day cactus cookie tutorial

I've always known that I'm basically a 10 year old. I mean... I NAMED MY BLOG LILALOA. Have you heard this story? I was fairly well sleep deprived one very early morning after a night of not sleeping while traveling across the country because of some delayed and cancelled flights. I was expecting my first child and aimlessly considering possible names for a girl as I stared out the window. I liked names like Avalyn and Lilly and Layla and Lila and eventually my sleep deprivation turned each of the names into the sum of their sounds. I found myself saying things like "Lee-Lee-La-Loh-La". I somehow landed on the sounds of  "Lie-Luh-Low-Uh" and determined in my extremely rational 4am brain that those sounds would be the name of my first child if it was a girl. Luckily, it was a boy and he dodged that bullet. So I gave the name to my newly born blog instead.

So I've always suspected that I was secretly a 10 year old inside. And then my oldest became an ACTUAL 10 year old...and completely confirmed my suspicions. For example - kissing in movies. I can NOT handle that. When I'm in public with my husband, I always look down and he makes fun of me because he KNOWS I'm avoiding watching it. A few weeks ago, I was watching a fairly family friendly movie with my husband and two oldest children. There was totally a kissing scene. OUT OF NOWHERE! And as I put my hands in front of my face and looked sideways...I found myself staring into the eyes of my 10 year old who also had his hands in front of his face.

If that wasn't enough to convince me...these cookies would have solidified my suspicions. *I* think they are particularly hilarious and the only other person that agrees with me at this house is my 10 year old. He calls them Anti-Valentines. You know...because a cactus hugging people is the OPPOSITE of loving. So it's super funny to all 10-year-old souls whatever their real age happens to be.

And because I love you guys... I wrote down the ratios I used to make these colors!! If you need more help understanding ratios, check out this post about using my color chart cards.

The photo tutorials for  these guys were lost to the abyss of rainy day shadows just like the gnome photos. So... once again you are stuck with just a video to show you how to make them!
