Mike Pence to lead U.S. delegation at Winter Olympics

Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, will lead the U.S. delegation to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang next month, Pence's office announced in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Pence will make stops in Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo, where he will attend meetings concerning the stability of the Korean Peninsula. He also plans to stop in Alaska to see U.S. missile defense facilities. Pence and his wife will attend the Games' Opening Ceremony on Feb. 9.

The news comes one day after North Korea said it will send a delegation to South Korea for the Olympics, including athletes, a cheering squad and high-ranking officials. North Korea has won two medals — one silver and one bronze — in the history of the Winter Games.
