WAYNESBORO - A woman faces charges in connection to an October encounter with a Pennsylvania Game Commission officer who allegedly saw her uneasy and swaying outside of Waynesboro Hospital while a child was in her car.

Kayla Renae Houck, 31, of Waynesboro, was picking up a man who was being overseen by the officer, according to court documents. The officer saw that she had a child in her car, whom he later determined was 4 years old. The officer became suspicious upon seeing her unsteady on her feet as she walked toward him.

By the end of the interaction, Houck was having her blood drawn to be tested for alcohol and drugs, and was later charged with several counts of driving under the influence and one count of child endangerment, according to court documents.

Houck arrived at the hospital around 9:28 p.m. on Oct. 20, according to court documents and was asked to fill out release paperwork for the man she was there to pick up. She fumbled with several different cards while trying to give the game commission officer her license, dropping some of them, according to court documents.

Houck allegedly had alcohol on her breath and had bloodshot and glassy eyes, the officer reported in court documents. Her movements were slow and lethargic, the officer wrote.

The officer determined the child in the car was 4 years old.

When the officer asked her how much she had to drink, Houck allegedly said "four," court documents state. She said she had been drinking about an hour before arriving at the hospital.

Houck took field sobriety tests that led the officer to believe she was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, according to court documents. The woman told police the last time she smoked marijuana was three days prior, according to court documents.

Houck was taken into custody under suspicion of DUI and was taken into the hospital for a blood draw, according to court documents.

The results of the tests showed that Houck's blood was positive for methadone, marijuana and amphetamine. She also had a blood alcohol concentration of .132.

Houck was issued a summons on the charges, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Jan. 23.
