Reader's note: The Knoxville News Sentinel asked Jacob Warren to write about his recruiting process. Here are his words

I began playing flag football at the age of 5 and the game has had a special place in my heart ever since. Growing up, I was always the biggest on my team so, it just made sense to play up a division with my older brother Josh. Even in the older division, I exceeded the ball carrier weight limit so my dreams of being the next Jason Witten were put on hold.

The unreasonably low weight limit didn’t stop me from running routes and catching passes from my dad in the front yard. Little did I know, these father-son bonding moments would prepare me for my high school career as a pass catching tight-end.

I was finally able to play the tight-end position freshman year in high school and since the only other tight-ends were upperclassmen, I knew there was an opportunity to get playing time on Friday nights. After having little success my sophomore year, I was determined to improve my game and be a leader on what would be the 2016 Tennessee Division 5A State Championship team.

It was during my junior season that I realized that I had the potential to play at the next level. I received offers from a number schools after my successful junior year but the one that meant the most was from the University of Tennessee. Getting the opportunity to run through the Power T at Neyland Stadium has been my dream since I began playing back in 2005.

I have been fortunate enough to be raised in a home by parents that love the Lord. In the Bible, Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” I believe my success as a football player is a perfect example of this. I have been blessed with the ability to play the game I love. I would not have been able to achieve the things I have so far in my life without the endless support from my amazing family. As I begin a new chapter in my life, I am grateful to know that I have many great people supporting me.

Go Vols!!!
