CHAMBERSBURG - Patrons of the Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg will be getting a very special holiday gift this year.

Due to generosity of an anonymous donor, the theater will be purchasing digital sound equipment and installing it as soon as possible, theater officials said in a news release Tuesday.

The upgrade will eliminate all sound issues patrons may have experienced over the past several years, and will evenly distribute sound throughout the auditorium. The theater said this will allow guests to hear the sound without drops or explosions of volume.

“We feel certain that our existing patrons will be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the new sound system adding to their enjoyment of experiencing a live show at the Capitol Theatre and for those attending the Capitol Theatre for the first time," the release said. "The historic gem will impress as the perfect venue for high-quality entertainment the community has come to enjoy."

For patrons who still may have volume issues, the theater will also offer hearing assist devices at the box office. Using the device is free, and only requires the theater holding onto the borrower’s drivers license or ID, which will be given back once it is returned.

The sound system upgrade, as well as the stage lighting system, are part of funding initiatives in the inaugural fundraising campaign this season called “Capitol Forever." This year's goal is $75,000, and as of Monday, Dec. 18, the theater was about $6,000 away from attaining its goal.

"The Capitol Theatre Center Foundation, the board of trustees and the staff are thrilled with the response, and profusely thank patrons for their generosity and encourage anyone still thinking about donating to strongly consider donating to this year’s campaign," the release said.
