DUNKIRK (Warner) Christopher Nolan's inventive epic telling of the miracle of Dunkirk, when nearly 400,000 British troops were evacuated, some in citizens' tiny boats, across the English Channel ahead of the Nazi onslaught. With Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, Harry Styles. (PG-13; “intense war experience,” some language)  

MOTHER! (Paramount) Jennifer Lawrence plays the second wife of a middle-aged writer (Javier Bardem), whose world turns upside down when unexpected guests set things in motion in Darren Aronofsky's much-debated, love-it-or-hate-it drama. With Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer. (R; disturbing violent content, some sexuality, nudity, language)

THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE (Warner) A young ninja must battle an evil warlord — who just happens to be his father — in this animated Lego movie, with a voice cast including Dave Franco, Jackie Chan, Justin Theroux, Olivia Munn and Fred Armisen. (PG; some rude humor) 

VICTORIA & ABDUL (Universal) Based-on-a-true-story drama in which an aging Queen Victoria bonds with an unlikely subject — a clerk from India who took part in the queen’s golden jubilee and formed a friendship with the monarch. With Judi Dench, Ali Fazal. (PG-13; some thematic elements, language) 

STRONGER (Lionsgate) A man who lost both his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing struggles to find the strength to come back in this biopic, with Jake Gyllenhaal as blast survivor Jeff Bauman. (R; pervasive language, some graphic injury images, brief sexuality/nudity) 

LEATHERFACE (Lionsgate) A boy sent to a mental hospital after the suspicious death of a lawman's daughter grows up, escapes and gets involved in mayhem. Horror prequel to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." (R; violence, gore, disturbing images, language, some sexuality/nudity) 

BLOOD MONEY (Lionsgate) Three friends on a wilderness trip stumble on a huge stash of cash left behind by a white-collar criminal (John Cusack), who comes gunning for it, and them. (R; pervasive language, some violence) 

THE UNAMERICAN STRUGGLE (Cinema Libre) Documentary taking a look at the rise in hate groups in the United States. (not rated; language) 

SHATTERED (VMI) A woman marries into a powerful Southern family and finds out more than she bargained for when looking into the past of her adopted son. Thriller with Arianne Zucker, Ray Wise, Molly Burnett. (not rated; some violence)

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE The secret British spy organization joins forces with its American counterpart to take on a drug lord (Julianne Moore) with a thing for 1950s kitsch. ALL SAINTS A man who leaves the corporate world to become a pastor is given the job of closing a struggling small-town church, but decides instead to work with some of its newest members — a group of refugees from Burma — to save it. THE TRIP TO SPAIN Best bickering buds Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon hit the road again, this time across the Iberian Peninsula, checking out the terrain and the cuisine in the third movie in the banter-filled road comedy series. (not rated) 

VICEROY'S HOUSE In 1947, Lord Mountbatten and his wife arrive in India to oversee the country’s transition to independence from Britain, just as sharp religious and cultural divides threaten to tear India apart. Historical drama with Hugh Bonneville and Gillian Anderson, directed by Gurinder Chadha ("Bend It Like Beckham”). (not rated) 

WOLF WARRIOR II A former Chinese special-ops fighter living in Africa sets out to protect medical aid workers from rebels and arms dealers. Action sequel directed by and starring Wu Jing. THE UNKNOWN GIRL Working late at a clinic, a woman doesn't answer a buzzer at the door; when an unidentified African woman is found dead the next morning, the worker becomes obsessed with making sure the dead woman isn't forgotten.
