Tanker trailer crash closes I-70 eastbound lanes

UPDATE: The eastbound lanes on the highway are now open, according to Maryland State Police. The tanker trailer has also been removed. 

HAGERSTOWN - The eastbound lanes on Interstate 70 are closed due to a tanker trailer crash, according to Maryland State Police. 

At about 2 a.m. today, officers responded to a report in which a tanker trailer overturned in the median on the highway near mile marker 5, and was leaking motor oil. When officers arrived, the driver was also being extricated from the vehicle, the report shows.

Police said the Maryland Department of the Environment is on the scene and is assisting with the leakage, and the State Highway Administration is assisting with offloading and traffic issues. 

According to the report, the eastbound lanes will be closed for an unknown amount of time.
