Milwaukee police investigating fatal accident after driver fled traffic stop

Milwaukee police are investigating a crash Saturday afternoon that took the life of the male driver and seriously injured his female passenger.

Police had pulled over a 2007 Chevrolet Impala for failure to obey a traffic signal about 2:10 p.m. in the 5800 block of W. Appleton Ave.

When officers left their squad car and approached the Impala, the driver sped off northbound on N. 59th St.  Officers did not pursue the Impala.

The driver then lost control and crashed into a tree.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The female passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
