A Milwaukee man arrested and released four times for domestic abuse beat, choked, sexually assaulted and threatened his ex-girlfriend just days after his latest release, according to a criminal complaint.

Luis A. Curat

Luis A. Curet, 18, could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison if convicted of a slew of felony charges, including second-degree sexual assault, substantial battery, strangulation and suffocation, and witness intimidation, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The complaint accuses Curet of terrorizing the 27-year-old woman for months, living "with her on and off when he wasn’t in the Waukesha County Jail for intimidating her, or threatening to kill her."

According to the complaint:

Curet had been "overwhelmingly controlling" since meeting the woman about eight months ago at a Milwaukee gas station.

He seemed nice at first, but soon began "following her around everywhere.”

The woman told investigators Curet “needed constant attention… and would get jealous when she paid attention to her own daughter.”

After a couple of months he began punching the woman, dragging her by the hair, choking her and forcing her into unwanted sex, often in front of her 4-year-old daughter.

The woman also described how Curet would get arrested and released on a signature bond and a no-contact order, only to return to beat and rape her again.

In October, two one-year prison sentences imposed on Curet for violating several restraining orders and threatening the woman were stayed by Circuit Judge Ralph Ramirez, according to state court records, which indicate he was placed on probation and jailed with work release privileges.

Curet allegedly returned to the woman's Waukesha apartment Wednesday, several days after being released, and again began forcing her into unwanted sex, accusing her of cheating on him, and choking and biting her when she tried to resist.

When the woman attempted to flee Curet tackled her in a hallway, beat her and dragged her by the hair back to the apartment, where he punched her so hard that he knocked out one of her molars, according to the complaint.

After Curet fled to a cousin's apartment, the woman called police, later pulling clumps of lose hair from her head as she spoke with officers.

Curet had to be Tased when police found him hiding in a closet at his cousin's home, and he later threatened the arresting officers, according to the complaint.

Curet was in the Waukesha County Jail on Saturday, with bail set at $100,000, according to jail and court records.
