La Niña expected to continue through winter

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says there’s an 80 percent chance La Niña will continue through the winter.

Link Crawford, a hydrometeorologist with Ohio River Forecast Center, says colder temperatures are expected this winter.

“NOAA has come out and declared it’s confident La Niña is not ending right away,” he says. “It’s going to stay through the winter and into at least the beginning of spring.”

He tells Brownfield it makes sense that La Niña conditions are expected to continue.

“We’re in it right now and in general the outlooks are that those cold temperatures on the eastern Pacific look like they’re staying colder than normal for the most part,” he says.

Crawford says the La Niña conditions will likely continue through April or May.
