Former Tennessee defensive backs coach Charlton Warren has been hired by SEC rival Florida. Warren was in Knoxville for one season.

New Gators coach Dan Mullen made the announcement on Friday. A school release did not indicate what position Warren would coach. He was also UT's special teams coordinator.

Warren was not retained by new UT coach Jeremy Pruitt. He was hired a year ago by former coach Butch Jones, who was fired in November. Warren was also on the staffs at Air Force, Nebraska and North Carolina.

On Twitter, Warren thanked his former players.

“Really enjoyed my time here at RockyTop!” Warren tweeted. “Want to wish all the players nothing but success in the future, and I appreciate getting a chance to coach and mentor the #Savages this season. Best of luck fellas!”

Warren and the Gators play UT in Knoxville next season on Sept. 22.
