Fuel investment can pay off

A refined fuels expert says spending more on higher-quality diesel reduces potential downtime and expensive repairs.

Akhtar Hussain with Minnesota-based CHS tells Brownfield farmers have difficult decisions to make concerning where to reduce expenses while margins remain tight.

“So while there are a number of areas to invest, we feel the investment in a Cenex premium diesel fuel is one that is likely to save money in the long-run.”

Cenex is the energy brand of CHS.

Hussain says as farmers hold on to older equipment or purchase it used, fueling with premium diesel is very beneficial.

“Because not only does a premium diesel fuel keep engines clean and maintain engines, they also clean up engines.  So if you have an older engine that may have some injector deposits, that may have a fuel system that needs cleaning, our fuel actively cleans that engine and restores lost engine power and lost performance.”

He says generally, premium number two diesel will cost about five cents per-gallon more than standard.
