Used ag equipment sales remain strong

An ag equipment sales representative with Indiana-based MacAllister Equipment says lower commodity prices are contributing to the rise in used ag equipment sales.

Ryan Basham says he anticipates the market for used equipment to remain strong through 2019.

“We’re selling a lot of used combines and a lot of used tractors and sprayers,” he says. “Planters haven’t really taken off too much yet but for the most part good used equipment is the hot ticket right now.”

He tells Brownfield farmers shouldn’t expect a decrease in prices on new equipment anytime soon…

“Manufacturers are holding their margins and until they feel some pain, they’re not coming down on price,” he says. “That’s why everyone is turning to used equipment.”

In the meantime, he encourages farmers to buy smart and maintain equipment.

“Keep your equipment up to date with parts if you’re not going to buy new, that’s going to be the key to success,” he says.

Basham spoke to Brownfield at the Indiana-Illinois Farm and Outdoor Power Equipment Show.
