Christmas tree growers get real

Christmas tree growers are telling the real story behind of how real trees end up as the centerpiece for many families this holiday.

Marsha Gray with the Christmas Tree Promotion Board tells Brownfield this holiday season the checkoff is continuing to reach out to millennials through social media to share the story of real Christmas tree farmers.  “We really felt that there’s this desire among that age group to know where your product comes from.  That’s the whole food movement, where does my food come from?’”

She says videos are being shared through Facebook for the industry to introduce themselves to consumers and answer misconceptions about fresh cut trees.  “So many consumers do not know that this is a farm grown product that we harvest and replant.  They think we’re taking trees out of the forest.”

Gray says the videos feature Christmas tree growers in their own words talking about how the trees are good for the environment, 100 percent biodegradable and supports farm families while creating holiday memories.

Oregon, North Carolina and Michigan are the top three states for Christmas tree production.
