Derek Jeter attends Monday Night Football game instead of MLB winter meetings

USA TODAY Sports
Derek Jeter addresses the media at Marlins Park in Miami after being introduced as Marlins chief executive officer on Oct. 3.

Derek Jeter was seemingly more interested in pleasure than business Monday.

While the MLB winter meetings kicked off in Orlando, Jeter — the Miami Marlins CEO and part owner — was seen taking in the Monday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins that was played 200 miles away at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Jeter was also glaringly absent as the meetings got started Monday morning, opting to officially announce and discuss the blockbuster trade that sent the team's slugger Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees via conference call.

In Jeter's defense, owners don't generally attend the Winter Meetings. But, Jeter has been criticized of how he has conducted business in recent weeks, and the Winter Meetings happen to be nearly in his back yard.
