Eight quilters worked a day and a half to create 20 Teddy Bears at A Quilting Stitchuation to be given to children in need who live in Timberon.

When quilters in Timberon asked for help to make Christmas a little brighter for needy children in their community. Jackie Hunter, owner of A Quilting Stitchuation in Ruidoso, didn't hesitate.

She gathered eight local quilters and in a day and a half, they created 20 Teddy Bears, the design for each based on the ages and gender of the recipients.

"The quilters in Timberon usually make gifts for the elderly and the kids, but they lost their funding and they asked if we were willing to help with the kids," Hunter said. "I knew we had classes on making bears and I asked those women, if they would help with the children's gifts."

Hunter said she's celebrating the holidays for many reasons, one being that she recently became am authorized dealer for Janome. But the biggest reason is the completion of her successful first year in business at 1715 Sudderth Drive, next to Domino's Pizza. Her husband is staying busy sharpening scissors, repairing and cleaning sewing machines.

Hunter invited the public to stop by and celebrate the first anniversary with them Friday through Sunday, with special events, sales, and "makes and takes."

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday. For more information, call 575-315-0541
